Corrosion Under Insulation
- a High Tech Solution for the Oil & Gas Industry
Corrosion Under Insulation (CUI) is one of the largest causes of premature pipe failure to the oil & gas industry. Maintenance costs in 2007 relating to CUI problems is estimated to be $8.6 Billion.
The current thinking to address CUI is to seal the pipe from the outside elements, this is a solution in ideal circumstances i.e. New steel with no outwards sign of corrosion, but, what happens when the pipe already has started corroding, or where the existing covering is damaged and water / air reach the surface of the pipe.
QED has developed a new innovative solution, which involves incorporating a high-quality Migrating Corrosion Inhibitor (MCI) into an industry leading technical pipe wrap / jacketing system.
The pipe wrap is self adhesive even in extreme conditions (-40c to +200c) and even in heavy rain.
It can go onto existing corroded pipe sections with the minimum of preparation as the active chemical corrosion inhibitor will eliminate further corrosion to the pipe for the life of the tape system.
All that is required is that the pipe is inspected to ensure it is still serviceable.
